Board evaluation: Harworth Group plc ▾
We engaged Ian to undertake our first external Board and Committee evaluation in 2018. The process was seamless from start to finish. We worked closely with Ian, benefitting from his experience and guidance, to identify key issues on which to focus. With his personable, professional and discrete manner, he built rapport with all Directors and participants in the evaluation, resulting in honest feedback and a thorough evaluation. His report and presentation to the Board was clear and focused, identifying a series of practical recommendations, all of which we have now implemented. I have no hesitation recommending him to others.

For me what stands out about Ian’s skill as a facilitator is his ability to manage the whole process with sensitivity, clarity and calm. People have the opportunity to contribute their ideas and to express their views, to listen to the ideas and views of others, and to reach agreement. All managed with authority, without haste, and all with a light touch – a very satisfying process. I’ve been at several productive meetings that Ian has facilitated and look forward to many more.

Board evaluation: Nottingham Building Society ▾
Following a stringent selection process Ian was asked to conduct our triennial Board Effectiveness Review. Following close consultation with The Chair, SID and CEO Ian compiled a bespoke approach which exactly met all our requirements for the exercise. We were uniformly impressed with how Ian carried out the process from start to finish, engaging with all Board members on a personal level to ensure the process provided effective and actionable feedback. The final report was delivered in a professional and personalised manner which has resulted in a value adding 11 point action plan focusing on the continuation of the development of an effective Board here at The Nottingham. Viewed as a very worthwhile and valuable exercise.

Coaching client ▾
I asked Ian to work with two senior colleagues as coaches because I was confident that he would take each of them on their merits and be 100% committed in seeking to add personal and commercial value to their development journeys. He certainly did this, and I was particularly impressed by the way in which he was free of models or preconceptions but instead was only interested in being client centric, professional and worthwhile. It was particularly noticeable that one of the individuals concerned had previously received coaching in another organisation, and commented that they really noticed the difference in quality and competence through dealing with Ian. He brings real care and dedication to his professional work, along with significant and valuable senior level organisational experience which very few others operating in this field can match. It is very easy to find a coach who’s been on a two-day course; it’s far less easy to find somebody of Ian’s competence.
